What It Feels Like to Watch

All of Us Are Dead is Korean zombie horror in a high school. A science teacher creates a virus—for revenge, initially, then it escapes. The infected become zombies: fast, aggressive, hungry. The outbreak begins at Hyosan High School. Students are trapped. The military quarantines the city. No one is coming. The kids must survive—or become the monsters chasing them.

The show's strength is its setting: a high school as fortress and trap. Classrooms, science labs, the cafeteria, the roof—each space becomes a battleground, a hiding place, a tomb. The characters are archetypal but differentiated: On-jo (Park Ji-hu) is the pragmatic one; Cheong-san (Yoon Chan-young) loves her from afar; Su-hyeok (Park Solomon) is the fighter; Na-yeon (Lee Yoo-mi) is selfish; Gwi-nam (Yoo In-soo) becomes something worse than zombie—the show's sustained villain, a half-zombie who retains intelligence and malice.

The virus has rules: transmission through bites, but also latency. Some students are bitten but asymptomatic. How long before they turn? The tension is excruciating. The show's thesis: disaster reveals character. Na-yeon's selfishness kills; On-jo's pragmatism saves; Gyeong-su (Ham Sung-min) sacrifices himself for friends. The adults are largely absent or useless—the science teacher (Patient Zero's father) tries to help but fails. The military's solution is nuclear.

One season, twelve episodes, ongoing. All of Us Are Dead is brutal, propulsive, emotionally grounded. The zombie scenes are terrifying—fast, overwhelming, relentless. But the human scenes matter: crushes, betrayals, sacrifices. "We should survive together," someone says. "We will." Not everyone does. That's the horror—notjust zombies, but loss. The school becomes a graveyard. The kids become survivors, or victims, or monsters. One season in, the outbreak has just begun.
