Inside the ranking
Transparent by design

Taste, made visible.

Our editorial standard favours grounded, serious drama: believable characters, convincing performances and disciplined writing. Realism means credible behaviour and consequences, including in imagined worlds. Reputation, budget and a serious tone alone do not earn points.

Seven dimensions make that judgment explicit. Your weights decide how much each matters. Change a rating when you disagree with an assessment; change a weight when you value something differently.

Quality = Σ (rating × weight ÷ 100)

We round once, at the end, to two decimal places. Equal scores are ordered alphabetically. Ranks always refer to the full catalogue, even when you filter the list.

Small length bonus · optional

Off by default: the ranking uses quality alone. If enabled, a small duration preference adds at most 0.5% to that quality score—0.04 points on an 8/10. More episodes do not establish better acting or writing.

There is no bonus through 10 episodes. It increases smoothly to the maximum at 100 episodes, then stops. Short runs are never penalised. Quality stays on a ten-point scale; the optional adjusted total can reach 10.05.

What counts as an assessment?

Ratings, reasons and episode counts must refer to the same run. A selected-season entry excludes later material. Where the original season cutoff was not recorded, we say so.

Starting ratings are subjective, AI-assisted editorial judgments. New research assessments identify their scope, sources and evidence limits; they are provisional interpretations, not claims of complete viewing. Historical notes are labelled separately from current ratings; a matching number alone does not verify a review. Known wrong-programme assessments stay searchable and can be shortlisted, but receive no score or rank until reassessed.

Ongoing stories are judged by the promises developed within the assessed run. A future ending is unknown, not automatically bad. Purposeful quiet scenes, grounded worlds and coherent ambiguity can all earn high ratings.

A note on the project

A starting point for your taste.

Dynamic Rank Engine is an independent television ranking project. The catalogue and original AI-assisted reviews are an editorial starting point. Your formula and ratings determine your personal order.

Original reviews may contain spoilers, older scores and outdated streaming availability. Archived notes are historical evidence. New research assessments are labelled separately and disclose their sources and limitations. Known premise errors are withheld, and unresolved factual concerns are identified. We do not claim daily updates or live availability.

Release metadata adapted from TVmaze is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0. Dates and episode listings describe releases, not the scope of a score. Audience ratings are not imported.

Privacy & storage

Guest preferences stay in this browser’s local storage. Signing in uses Google Firebase Authentication; ratings, weights, shortlist and filters are saved to the existing Dynamic Rank Engine Firebase project. An account-specific recovery copy is also kept on this device. Signing out returns to your separate guest rankings.

Posters load from The Movie Database and TVmaze, and sign-in loads scripts from Google. Those services receive the ordinary network information needed to serve requests. The site does not include advertising or an analytics tracker.
