"The road awaits"
Agatha All Along is Marvel's witchy follow-up to WandaVision. Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), the villain who trapped Wanda in a sitcom nightmare, is now trapped herself—stripped of power, stuck in a fake persona, forgotten. A mysterious goth teen (Joe Locke) breaks her out, asking for help reaching the Witches' Road, a magical path that grants wishes. Agatha needs a coven. She recruits one: a potion witch, a divination witch, a protection witch. "The road awaits," they chant. "Down, down, down the road."
The show's structure is episodic fairy tale: each trial on the Witches' Road is a different genre horror—a cabin in the woods, a 1980s sleepaway camp, a tarot reading turned deadly. The trials test each witch, reveal their fears, their sins. Agatha is complicated: villain, victim, mother who lost her son, witch who killed her coven. "I'm not a good person," she admits. "But I'm not the villain either." Kathryn Hahn is spectacular—funny, terrifying, vulnerable, scheming. She carries the show with star power and commitment.
The supporting cast includes Patti LuPone as a 450-year-old psychic, Aubrey Plaza as a death witch with her own agenda, and Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp as the coven. The show's thesis: coven means community. Witches are powerful together, isolated they fall. Agatha has been alone for centuries, betrayed and betrayer. The road offers redemption—or revenge. "What do you want?" she's asked. Power, she says. But maybe something else too.
One season, nine episodes, seemingly complete. Agatha All Along is Marvel's most self-contained TV entry—a story that works on its own, with Marvel connections that enhance rather than require. The songs (performed by Hahn and cast) are memorable. The visuals are theatrical: magical sets, theatrical trials, Halloween-as-aesthetic. "The road demands a sacrifice," Agatha says. Everything costs something. Everyone pays.
